Isn't a primary school just the upper elementary grades, though? Or is it really just elementary in general? Our primary buildings are K-3, so lower elementary. The upper elementary, 4-6, are called intermediate. And then 7-8 is junior high.

Oh... right.
It seems strange to me that you name them differently, because, my school district used to have one of the elementary schools split up. K-3 at one and 4-6 at the other, just like yours, but both of them were still called elementary schools. *shrugs* Every school is different I suppose.

Where I went to school, our elementary building was K-4, and the 5-8 building was the middle school. Now the district has grown so much that the elem. building can only hold grades K-2, and the middle school is broken up into the intermediate wing (3-5), and the junior high wing (6-8).

Whoa... 5th graders with 8th graders? Wow. I'd be a little concerned about that, lol. At least now it's broken up. I'm always paranoid when younger kids are with older kids, because of what the younger ones will pick up from the older ones, you know? Like, in my district before, the 6th graders were at the elementary school and no one ever cussed until 7th grade (except my friend Keith, lol). Now, the 6th graders are at the middle school and a lot of them cuss. Same goes for high school. The district next to mine has 9-12 grades at the high school, as to where my district only has 10-12. Well, at this other district, the majority of girls that get pregnant in high school did so when they were in 9th grade, and it was typically from a senior guy. Anyway, that was totally off topic, lol.

Yeah, but when I was in 5th grade, I never even saw the 7th and 8th graders. The 5th grade classrooms had their own hallway, and most of the 7th and 8th grade classrooms were in a completely different wing of the school. It wasn't a big deal.
In high school, we were all mixed, but I always had crushes on the older guys in high school, so I never minded LOL.

It is, lol. Well, Kindergarten through 6th grade is what it used to be. Nowadays, it's K-5 and the 6th graders go to middle school.
A few districts just decided to have it a little different.

Technically, I, as an elementary teacher, am certified to teach grades K-9. K-8 can count as elementary school... and 9-12 is secondary (high school). But usually they call the upper elementary grades middle school or junior high.

^For us it's K-2 elementary, 3-5 itermediate, 6-8 is middle school and 9-12 is highschool. There are 9 schools in the city of Opelika. 1 is where naughty kids go, there are three elementary and itermediate schools for different parts of the city. Then we all come together for middle school and high school.

Naughty kids? Do you mean that it's an alternative school?

^It's called the Brown School. For kids who constantly get in trouble at regular school.

Okay, then yeah, that's like an alternative school. Apparently you guys don't call it that down there though... lol.
