I never cared for AU stories because frankly it felt like I was reading about somebody else. I read BSB fiction because I want to read about BSB. Nick the Astronaut could be any Nick in the world, if you know what I mean

I don't know if I ever replied to this thread or not, but I love them. In my opinion there is just so much more you can do with an AU story than you can with just simply a fan fic story. You can take the guys, or whatever celeb you're writing about and put them into situations they would never be in, or a situation you just want to write about. I think you can be more creative with these too.

Wow, we are split right down the middle on this LOL. I guess that's how it should be.
I WILL write a Brian AU one of these days... I have two ideas now; it's just about finding the inspiration to really get into one of them.

I hope you do it soon! I want something different, I LOVE Footprints, but something about Brian would be nice too. I've been corrupted!

I like AU's because you can write pretty much anything on the guys. Its gotta be interesting though for me to read it. I haven't even tried my touch on AU with any of BSB, but who knows right?

If you love writing and have a good idea, why not give it a try? ^

Just gonna give my input here. I've been writing AU with 00Carter now, and i simply love it. I like reading it too, but writing an AU gives a lot of freedom.

I have never been crazy about AUs, but I am really warming up to them. I think it has something to do with the fact that Kevin's out of the group, and most of the guys are married now... it's just harder to write Bsb fic and stick to reality and still have the freedom to do what you want in the story. AU is limitless. It's funny to me, cause basically everything I'm writing now is AU. 00Carter, Code Blue, and this new project I'm working on with Rose and Dee - all AU. Who knew?

^Exactly. There are only two soldiers left, Nick and AJ, who can still be the victims of our messed up love stories without feeling any guilt towards Leighanne, Kristin and Leigh.
It sounds like you have completed an era in your life where you were writing fanfiction about Backstreet Boys and now they're turning into AUs and next in line is real fiction, turning into published books! ;D

I love them way more than I did when I started this poll LOL. That was like 3+ years ago! I only had one AU I was writing then, and now I have like 4 of them. I still prefer Bsb stories, but AUs do offer you a lot more freedom and flexibility, which is nice.

I read my first AU story last year and since then have read loads and even made a start on writing one.
