This is the conversation my mom and I just had: Mom: Yeah, your dad said you were still up when he left for work this morning. How come? Me: *shrug* I was doing stuff. Mom: Were you writing? Me: Yeah. Mom: What are you writing? Not your Backstreet Boys stories still, were you? Me: Yes. Mom: Julie! You've got to stop that! Me: Why? Mom: Because you're an adult! Me: Most of my online friends are older than me, and they write about the Backstreet Boys too. Some of them are closer to your age. They have lives. Mom: Well, why can't you just write a regular story? Why does it have to be about the Backstreet Boys? Me: Why not? Then she switched tangents and asked if I've started writing about more "adult" things, like Harlequin Romance material LMAO. I was just like, "Um, no," and then I left the room before she could grill me or belittle me further. Now, honestly, my mom is pretty cool as far as moms go. She and I have a great relationship. But this has always been one of those things she doesn't and can't seem to understand. She loves the fact that I write, and she's always saying I should write a book and so on (even though I refuse to let her read anything I've written, so I don't know how she would know if I have any talent at it or not, but I guess all parents want to think their kids are talented LOL), but she apparantly hates the fact that I choose to write about... the Backstreet Boys. And that's the thing - it does sound pathetic to anyone who isn't in the Bsb fanfic community. They don't understand. That's why I keep this particular hobby of mine to myself as much as possible around my friends and family. None of my friends know, and my family knows, but I never say much of anything about it because I know that they don't really understand. They think it's just some little teeny pastime that I'll eventually grow out of when I start writing REAL stories LOL. So anyway, have any of you been judged like this for writing or just for reading? Or do you pretty much just keep it all on the DL too LOL.

Ive never told anyone that I read Fan Fiction, except for a few online friends who read it too! Other than that no one knows! Ive kind of brought the subject up nonchalantly to one of my friends, kinda like "have you ever heard of fan fiction?" She was like no and asked what it was and i kinda played it off as not being so sure and explained it to her. Lets just say shes not open to some things So I just keep it to myself...its sort of like a get away for me anyway...LOL

LOL I actually introduced my RL best friends in junior high to fanfic before I started writing it, cause they were Bsb fans at the time, but when I started writing it, I never told them, and they're not fans anymore so I don't really have to worry about them finding it, but what's funny is, one of them has started writing Harry Potter fanfic, and she gave me the link to where she has her stories posted a few months ago and told me that if it hadn't been for me, she probably never would have discovered fanfic. So that was kinda cool. I still didn't tell her I'd been writing it for 6 years though, hahaha. I thought about it, and then I was like, "Uh....... no."

I totally agree with you guys too. I never told anyone that i read or write fanfiction because usually they just fail to understand. They just don't understand the fact that we can be so attached to a bunch of guys who actually made our lives better - in every aspect.
And when you read fanfiction, or write, they just seem to think that you like to daydream about how you make one of the guys fall in love with you and you get married and live happily ever after. But it's not that. And usually it's the opposite. But they just don't have that state of mind.
And i like not telling it to anyone actually. It give me this privacy that i share with only a couple of people online. It truly is like a sanctuary. ;D

I don't tell them because I know for a fact that they wouldn't understand and would judge me for just reading them. I'm not ashamed of it, it's just that they would not understand. The only people that I've told are fellow BSB friends both online and off, they don't judge cause they know how it goes.

A month or so ago after many many many drinks, my friend and I decided to tell secrets to eachother. I told her and she didn't think it was weird, but her secret was that she liked to read erotic stories and well, ya know, do what comes with those. LOL So I think it's safe to say that my secret doesn't really measure up to hers. She never really asks about it, but next semester we are suppose to live together, so we'll see how that goes.

I've only told a few select ppl that aren't online. But ppl at work see me reading what I've printed out and ask what it is. I just tell them an online story I'm reading. I don't think they'd understand or really know who Nick is. lol. They just know I read, alot. It's not unusual for me to go out on a smoke break and take a few pages with me. I'm so addicted to fanfic it's not funny. lol I love to read. I have tons of harlequins but now I'm stuck on ff. And I love it.

When i was doing my internship -well actually i was basically doing nothing- for the whole month i read and finished BMS, and everytime my colleagues passed by they were asking me what i was reading. I was just saying that it's an online story too. Then they admired when they saw how many chapters it was. But if i told them it's fanfiction i just knew they would be driven back. It's not that i'm ashamed, but they just would shake their heads, and I absolutely hate it when people underestimate what Backstreet Boys really mean to each and every one of us.

Uhh let's see, I've told one or two of my friends in rl. My Mom, bless her, loves BSB and has read about 98% of my stories, including my visuals and is one of my biggest readers! LOL! I'm not ashamed, but I get tired of being teased about liking them period. I don't get why other groups are more exceptable than others, not even music groups, but ya know TV shows and all.
Anyway, if I were to tell anyone else, it would be someone I could trust not to tease or judge me. What your Mom said Julie really sucks, I'm kinda lucky cause my Mom will ask me when the next chapter of "A Write Kind..." will be out or when am I gonna work on the next chapter.

Reading is a secret but writing is the biggest secret! lol Just my friends who are BSB fans know about it and only two of them actually read the stories.
I'm not ashamed, I don't know what it is, but I feel like I'm too old for this. The problem is: I love it! I love reading it, I love writing it, so I can't just stop doing it! Lol
