I started a new story last week and posted the first chapter on my site last night. It's called "Guilty Roads," and it's an old-school Bsb suspense/drama, Nick-centered but with the whole group. Link: www.dreamers-sanctuary.com/guilty.htmlFor those of you who have been coming to DS for years and years, you might remember this poll I used to have up, around the time I finished Broken and was working on BMS: www.dreamers-sanctuary.com/nextstory2.htmlIt's a list of all the story ideas I had at the time, and I wanted my readers to vote on which one sounded the best so I could decide which one to write after BMS. Well, I never realized how LONG BMS was going to be or that it would take me four years to write it, so by the time I got done with it, I had 00Carter and some other things in the works, and I never did get going on any of those old ideas. Some of them I'd nixed; others I had outlines started for, but had plot holes or other difficulties. Anyway... long story short, this story is #4, tentatively titled "Austere Refuge" back then. It's been in my head for at least six years, but had a gaping plot hole that I could never quite get past. Well, something inspired me last week, and I sat down and really thought about it, and I figured it out and started writing. So I'm happy about the fact that at least one of those old ideas of mine has finally come to light, and hopefully I'll be able to do a better job of keeping it updated than I do with Secrets. If you get a chance to check it the first chapter, I hope you like it! Let me know what you think!

Loved it No offense, Julie, but I think I realize your problem with the new Broken. It just doesn't seem to flow very naturally. Maybe you've noticed it too, and that's why you're having trouble writing it. Or maybe I just feel that way because I've read about an early-twenties Nick going through cancer. I don't know. But I think the flow is much smoother in this story, and it draws you in. I don't mean that you should stop writing the other one, by any means, but maybe you should (as much as I hate to think that) take a break from Broken and come back to it once you've done something different. This seems like a good choice for that, because it's a different genre but it will still let you get the feel for a teenage-ish Nick. Just my two cents!

I think I completely agree with you LOL.
That's my thing... I know when my writing is at its best and when it isn't, and when it's not flowing the way I know it can, that's when I get frustrated. I hate to force it when I can hold on to the hope that, at another time, with the right inspiration, it could be so much better.
Broken... it's frustrating because on the original, I didn't have a problem with writer's block. I was completely into that story the whole way through, and even the parts that were challenging turned out to be some of the better parts I wrote for it. I figured it would be fun and easy to take the same premise and rewrite it as original fiction, but it's obviously not going near as smoothly. I think I'm a better writer than I was when I started Broken, but I don't know if it's because 1) I'm bored with writing the same storyline I've already written, or 2) It is because of the age difference and character changes, but something has got me blocked. I tend to think it's more that I've done it already, so it doesn't feel as fresh and interesting as it did the first time around; it feels like I'm just writing it on autopilot. I'm having the same problem with Secrets of the Heart for the same reason. But it also could be the age difference, who knows. When I wrote Broken the first time, I was in high school, writing about characters five years older than me. Now I'm the one in my 20s, writing about high school kids. You'd think writing about the age you've already been through would be easier, but who knows LOL.
Anyway... thank you for your comments, and I'm glad you're liking the new story so far! I've had a lot better luck with writing it this past week; it's already longer than novel Broken LOL, so I guess that says a lot! It's not as planned out as I would like it to be, so I'm worried I'm gonna hit a road block with it, but maybe that's a good thing; maybe that'll make it more fun. Secrets is planned out chapter by chapter, and that hasn't made it go any faster at all, so meh LOL. I think the genre thing is a huge thing too. Since finishing BMS, I've had much better luck with action, horror, and suspense than I have with my usual drama/romance, and I think I just needed a change and a challenge.

Yeah, I've only read a couple of good fanfics since BMS... and they were just good enough to keep me reading. This makes me seriously want to read more though.

Amy - torturing them, of course! Isn't that what I always do? LOL
Estrella - thanks!! I'm loving the old-school vibe of it too, reminiscing on the 90s as I write LOL.
Thanks, guys! I'm enjoying having a story of my own again that, so far at least, I can write on daily, update frequently, and get feedback on. I appreciate you reading and reviewing!

I posted Chapter 5 on DS today. It might be a few days before Chapter 6 is up; it's not done yet, and I've been working on my next Undead part too.
