Hey Julie, Laureen? Is it true that over there, you guys call a drinking fountain a "bubbler" or something like that? lol... I have never actually heard anyone call it that in real life, but I've seen that before... I think they say people in Wisconsin call it that. Is anyone here from Wisconsin? LOL Anyway, Amy, Wisconsin borders IL, so you were right in thinking that. Just... no one really says that here. I want to meet someone from Wisconsin that calls it that LOL. I think it's cute. And random. I call it a drinking fountain or a water fountain.

How do you (meaning, anyone) pronounce "probably"? a) prob-ub-ly b) prob-ly c) prolly (I'd never seen or heard this before you posted in that survey Julie, lol) Me? I say b. prob-ly. LOL to be perfectly honest, all of the above. If I'm just talking casually, I say prob-ly or prolly, but in a more formal setting or if I'm in front of my class or something, I enunciate it more and say prob-ub-ly.

I'm not sure this is so much a regional thing as much as a personal choice, but the word "coupon" - how do you say that? Do you say "cue-pon" (Q-pon) or "coo-pon"?
Or how about "tour"? Do you say "too-er" or "tore"?

The pop vs. soda debate is the one I hear most in Illinois. People in northern IL, like around Chicago, tend to say pop, whereas people in southern IL tend to say soda. I'm in central IL, so I hear both. I grew up saying pop cause that's what my mom says, but somewhere along the lines I changed it to soda.
Meanwhile, my best friend from Tennessee just calls everything a "Coke" - even if it's not Coke or a Coca-Cola product at all LOL.

My choir director in high school always used to talk about how midwesterners are notorious for talking fast and shortening things (i.e. prolly for probably), and his example was always "Jeet?" Which means "Did you eat?" Say it really fast... it goes from "Did you eat?" to "Didju eat?" to "Dju eat?" which, said a little faster, sounds like "Jeet?" So... jeet dinner yet? LOL

Okay, it is apparantly my goal to post 10 times in a row in this thread.
I just thought of another one: grocery shopping! Besides the coupon thing, what do you call the wheeled object you push around to put your groceries in? Is it a cart or a buggy?
And what do you put your groceries in after you've paid for them? Is it a bag or a sack?
And what's the name for the big truck that delivers shipments to the grocery store? Is it a semi or a tractor trailer or what?
LOL the first fanfic collaboration I did was with my friend Rachel from Virginia, and she wrote something about a tractor trailer in our story, and I thought she meant a tractor, like the farm equipment, which didn't really fit with what she was writing, so I asked her about it and realized she was talking about a semi... which is what we call them here. I'd never heard the term tractor trailer before LOL.

Bluntly: cue-pon too-er LOL! Cart Bag Semi (or depending on which store it's for... Safeway truck, etc...) I think the same thing about tractor-trailors Julie, lol.

It's funny... in choir we supposed to sing something like, "would you" and it always came out like "woo jew" lol. Then the student teacher (or the teacher, depending...) would say, "No, no. There are no Jew's in this song. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings, but please, no Jew's. LOL!!!

But I typically think of a water fountain as the type of fountain you see at the park or whatever, lol.

LOL I remember when i went to Peoria for Nicks concert everyone was all "are you from Chicago" and I would tell them "yea how'd you guess" and they'd be like its your accent!!! I was like Whaaaat...I dont have an accent...you have an accent...I guess People think Chicagoians have a certain accent. anyway...with the other things I say: Q-pon cart bag semi and i've actually gotten into a debate with my managers about how to say tour...I say it like tore...but they like to argue with me and say its too-er. Her theory is that a "tore" is some kind of animal....Dont know how true that is though... And yes..your not alone with the tractor trailer..Tractors belong on farms...LOL

LOL! I don't think anyone thinks that they themselves have an accent, but everyone does, lol. Just like my accent is NW.
Yep! Tractores DEFINATELY belong on farms! LOL!
