Readers... when reading a fanfic, which is more important to you: that the story be realistic, or that it be entertaining, if not always realistic? Fantasies and other stories that aren't intended to be "realistic" don't count in this. Think of a realistic fiction - would you rather it seem totally like real life, or is it okay to pump up the drama to make it more entertaining, even if some of the realism is sacrificed? Do you mind reading stories that have so much going on they almost feel like a soap opera (but are still well-written and definitely entertaining), or do you avoid them for more realistic stories? Vote and discuss.

I don't know what to put honestly. I love for stories to be entertaining, but realistic too. Like your stories, Julie. They are both. They are fun to read, but they seems so real until you feel like you're actually there. Stories can be so realistic sometimes that they are boring, but they can be so entertaining,so to speak, that they are stupid. So my feel on things is for them to have a little of both in them.

Okay, obviously the ideal story is both. But I didn't put "both" as an option for a reason, cause everyone would have voted for that. Which you would you rather the story be, both but a little more entertaining than realistic? Or a little more realistic than entertaining?
I guess just think of all the stories you've read and really liked. Were all of them totally realistic? And not boring? Or were they at times not all that realistic, but really entertaining?

For me, I would say entertaining. I'm like the queen of reality, but my view is that since it's fiction, it's okay to sacrifice just a little bit of reality for the sake of the story.
I look at a story like Faceless, which is on my Favorites list and one of my all-time faves, and there's a lot of things about it that don't scream reality to me... but altogether, it's SUCH an entertaining story that I just love it. It's one of those stories I couldn't stop reading once I got into it; I think I read the whole thing in one sitting. It's got a fairy tale quality to it that really works. So that's why I voted entertaining.

Okay! I get what you're saying now! I fully understand, your mention of Faceless made me see! LOL. But, I guess I'd go with entertaining because the whole point of reading fan fic is to take some time of away from reality, so it would be too much fun if it was so realistic.

Alright, I'm the first to vote for realistic. Because, sometimes, the story isn't realistic, but it's not funny either (which really freaking bugs the fricking crap outta me!!! lol). I like stories to be realistic and most authors aren't exactly up to "Julie Lewis level" and I find that it bugs me WAY more than when something isn't entertaining, lol.

I voted for realistic. Nothing irks me more than when authors write something sooooo farfetched to try to be different that it's totally not believeable just so that it's entertaining. Realism can be entertaining, just depends on how it's displayed.
A truely realistic story to me can be just as entertaining, even more so than a story that's completely out there that's just for entertainment purposes.

^That is true! I do NOT like stories that are farfetched either. So unbelieveable that they are just stupid. But I still like having BOTH aspects. I can argue on both accounts. LOL

I gotta say entertaining here as well. To be honest, I don't think you can equalize the reality in fiction to the reality in real life because sometimes, the reality of life is far more unrealistic than a fiction can ever be. You know what I mean? After all, what we all do here is to take some time off from real life to read some good quality stories about our favorite band and I believe the entertainment part of reading fan fiction is weighing heavier. At least for me.

^OH I do know what you mean, and I like that sentence! "I don't think you can equalize the reality in fiction to the reality in real life becasue sometimes, the reality of life is far more unrelaistic than a fiction can ever be." I LOVE that, it explains everything so well!
