This is an idea I stole from Mare; she started this on the AbsoluteChaos forum earlier this year, and it was fun.
This is a survey game where you have to post 5 questions at a time. For this one, they all have to relate to fanfic (either reading or writing it - make questions for both so both readers and writers can answer).
I'll start by posting 5 questions. The next person to post has to answer my questions and then post 5 more of their own. You can't answer the questions unless you post questions of your own, and you can't post questions without answering the questions that are here. Once you've posted your 5 questions, though, you're off the hook and can come back to answer questions others post after you.
Make sense? Here are the first 5. (Number your questions just to help keep track of everything.)
1) If you were asked to select one of your fanfics to be put in a time capsule and preserved, which one would you choose and why? (If you don't write, pick a story you've read to preserve.)
2) Name a story you read the summary of or heard a synopsis of and scoffed, thinking it sounded like a terrible idea, and then read, only to be pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
3) If one of the Backstreet Boys emailed you and said that he had stumbled onto your site/fanfics, what would your reaction be? (Let's say you know for sure that it's the real him, not a poser.)
4) As a follow-up to #3, if you had the chance (or were forced) to give one of your stories to the Boys to read, which one would it be and why?
5) Name a story that you think would make an excellent book (as in a published novel) or movie, and tell us why you think so.
Those are the 5 questions I posted on AC, cause I'm too lazy to think of new ones right now LOL.

I'm bored so I'll answer these even though I had answered em at AC when we did this. 1) If you were asked to select one of your fanfics to be put in a time capsule and preserved, which one would you choose and why? (If you don't write, pick a story you've read to preserve.) At this point, likely Just Another Day. I'm prouder of that story than I thought I'd be 2) Name a story you read the summary of or heard a synopsis of and scoffed, thinking it sounded like a terrible idea, and then read, only to be pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Broken, lol I thought it was going to be terribly cliche and Nick would magically be healed (like in almost any cancer Nick fic) but saw Julie had the guts to slice off a leg lol. 3) If one of the Backstreet Boys emailed you and said that he had stumbled onto your site/fanfics, what would your reaction be? (Let's say you know for sure that it's the real him, not a poser.) If Nick stumbled on to 00Carter, I'd be flattered and very embarrassed at the same time lol. 4) As a follow-up to #3, if you had the chance (or were forced) to give one of your stories to the Boys to read, which one would it be and why? Likely 00Carter lol. It seems to be the safest story to let Nick read, he's not tortured 5) Name a story that you think would make an excellent book (as in a published novel) or movie, and tell us why you think so. Rebirth, I mean come on, end of the world epic sci-fi story and flick? I can soo see the trailer for it. Or Divisions of Reality which has its LOTR and Star Wars influences. Both would make great sci-fi movies, that if I had my way, George Lucas would have a major part in making. 5 more questions, which I also copied from the ones I used there LOL. 6) What story pulled you out of your writing comfort zone and why? 7) Name a relatively unknown writer who you feel needs to be recognized, one of her/his fics and why. 8.) Has a music video inspired one of your stories? How? 9.) What skill do you feel you need to work on as a writer? 10.) What do you feel is your best skill as a writer?

1) If you were asked to select one of your fanfics to be put in a time capsule and preserved, which one would you choose and why? (If you don't write, pick a story you've read to preserve.)
Eh, I've only written one and it was rubbish. I'll have to try again one of these days.
2) Name a story you read the summary of or heard a synopsis of and scoffed, thinking it sounded like a terrible idea, and then read, only to be pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
If I think it's a horrible idea, I don't read it.
3) If one of the Backstreet Boys emailed you and said that he had stumbled onto your site/fanfics, what would your reaction be? (Let's say you know for sure that it's the real him, not a poser.)
I'd be beyond embarrassed!!
4) As a follow-up to #3, if you had the chance (or were forced) to give one of your stories to the Boys to read, which one would it be and why?
Aww man, it would have to be the only one i've written and as I said, it's awful. "The Road Ahead". I was happy with the title and the plot idea, but later on I just didn't write it that well.
5) Name a story that you think would make an excellent book (as in a published novel) or movie, and tell us why you think so.
A Broken novel would be awesome
6) What story pulled you out of your writing comfort zone and why?
None, I haven't written that much fanfic yet.
7) Name a relatively unknown writer who you feel needs to be recognized, one of her/his fics and why.
Hmm I'd have to think about that.
8.) Has a music video inspired one of your stories? How?
Nope, although since we are talking about music videos I have to say "Untitled" by Simple Plan, made me cry.
9.) What skill do you feel you need to work on as a writer?
Realism, conversation, sticking with one or two stories at a time, just general writing style... Uh, let's just say I need to improve a lot overall.
10.) What do you feel is your best skill as a writer?
Once I know exactly what I want to write, I can do it well (I think). So if for English class they tell us we have to write a story and they tell us the topic, I find it quite easy.

Oh yeah I forgot my five questions: 11. How long is the longest fanfic you've read? 12. How did you find out about fanfiction? 13. Which was the first fanfic you read? 14. What's your favorite genre and why? 15. If you write or if you think you might write someday, what genre is it usually/would it be and why?

1) If you were asked to select one of your fanfics to be put in a time capsule and preserved, which one would you choose and why? (If you don't write, pick a story you've read to preserve.)
Well I like my idea for lipgloss and overalls so im thinking that one if id ever update and finish im kinda stuck again.
2) Name a story you read the summary of or heard a synopsis of and scoffed, thinking it sounded like a terrible idea, and then read, only to be pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
Broken, Julies summary sounded unsure and I was unsure if it was gonna be a boring story and then it was so long I thought it was gonna be cheesy BUT IT SO WAS NOT!
3) If one of the Backstreet Boys emailed you and said that he had stumbled onto your site/fanfics, what would your reaction be? (Let's say you know for sure that it's the real him, not a poser.)
I'd probably sit in shock and groan and feel stupid then say well if you liked it great if you hated it um yeah i love you anyway or something lol
4) As a follow-up to #3, if you had the chance (or were forced) to give one of your stories to the Boys to read, which one would it be and why?
A BSB Gymnastics Twist I suppose, it was the first fan fic i ever wrote.
5) Name a story that you think would make an excellent book (as in a published novel) or movie, and tell us why you think so.
Wow this is a hard question. For a scary movie maybe Shadow Woods I loved that story. Actually i take it back any story by julie or mare into a movie and their stories any of them can be novels
6) What story pulled you out of your writing comfort zone and why? If all goes well with it prisoner of love because its different from my other ideas.
7) Name a relatively unknown writer who you feel needs to be recognized, one of her/his fics and why. i like honey's stories up on choas but im not sure shes not so well known and i liked the stories my friend ashley on choas wrote too i felt she was great.
8.) Has a music video inspired one of your stories? How? A music video has not yet inspired me.
9.) What skill do you feel you need to work on as a writer? To not write such teeny bopper stories and to actually finish my stories.
10.) What do you feel is your best skill as a writer? that i have not yet discovered but i guess if i had to pic, my dramatic idea flare i write in
11.) Which fan fic author is your most inspiration to be like in fan fic that is NOT julie? (we all already wanna be like her)
12.) Who is the most fictional character that feels the most real that is NOT in the broken series?
13.) what has been your biggest writing challenge so far and why?
14.) when did you first start writing fanfic?
15.) Do you ever see yourself stop writting?

11.) Which fan fic author is your most inspiration to be like in fan fic that is NOT julie? (we all already wanna be like her)
I guess Anastacia on AC, she's really good at it.
12.) Who is the most fictional character that feels the most real that is NOT in the broken series?
Hmm Nick on Faceless seemed, well, not real exactly, but if a person was in that situation I think that's the way they'd act.
13.) what has been your biggest writing challenge so far and why?
My biggest writing challenge... hmmm... I have yet to encounter a challenge, but sometimes the English writing questions at school are really dumb, so I have to make up an idea to make them a little more interesting. I guess that's kind of a challenge.
14.) when did you first start writing fanfic? I've only tried once so far and that was last summer. I'll have to start again.
15.) Do you ever see yourself stop writting? No!! I wouldn't be an author (I gave up that idea back in 1 ESO, I mean 7th grade) but I like to write, even when it's not fanfic, and I think I am a good writer when I put my mind to it and such.

i'm not even looking at my original answers to the first few questions because i'm too lazy to go find them lol
1) If you were asked to select one of your fanfics to be put in a time capsule and preserved, which one would you choose and why? (If you don't write, pick a story you've read to preserve.)
Probably of fanfiction I would go with The Importance of Fly Fishing because it seems like out of all my fics, that's the one everyone seems to enjoy the most and I loved writing it.
2) Name a story you read the summary of or heard a synopsis of and scoffed, thinking it sounded like a terrible idea, and then read, only to be pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
I have to admit I usually don't read the story if I scoff at the summary lol
3) If one of the Backstreet Boys emailed you and said that he had stumbled onto your site/fanfics, what would your reaction be? (Let's say you know for sure that it's the real him, not a poser.)
LMAO I would probably be embarassed but then teeny because I would have their email address! *squees!* :OP
4) As a follow-up to #3, if you had the chance (or were forced) to give one of your stories to the Boys to read, which one would it be and why?
I actually have given Mel's Tree the novel to Howie and it was also given to Nick. Whether they read it or not is anyone's guess. lol
5) Name a story that you think would make an excellent book (as in a published novel) or movie, and tell us why you think so.
Ground Zero would make an excellent suspense novel
6) What story pulled you out of your writing comfort zone and why?
The Lion's Den because it was Howie centered and I have always had a hard time writing as Howie.
7) Name a relatively unknown writer who you feel needs to be recognized, one of her/his fics and why.
I would have to say my co-writer Maria (5 BSB in search of a Plot) She is an incredible writer but no one really knows her except from that story. You should all check out her sci fi story Yesterday's Blue Skies. It's really a great read.
8) Has a music video inspired one of your stories? How?
No lol....although if the video for By My Side counts lol then yes that inspired It Stays with You
9) What skill do you feel you need to work on as a writer?
Descriptions and writing in third person
10) What do you feel is your best skill as a writer?
I think i'm pretty good at writing first person and dialogue
11) How long is the longest fanfic you've read?
Probably Mind Games by Amanda
12) How did you find out about fanfiction?
I'm not exactly sure I was searching for info on BSB and stumbled across a visual site lmao but luckily I didn't run away and instead shortly after found Jenna's Site which hosted Ground Zero and the rest is history.
13) Which was the first fanfic you read?
Ground Zero and Swollen Issues at the same time
14) What's your favorite genre and why?
Probably drama/ suspense
15) If you write or if you think you might write someday, what genre is it usually/would it be and why?
I used to be all about suspense but I think I do enjoy writing drama more lately, anyway. Not sure why, really. I know for suspense it's just easy to write all the action sequences and the twists and turns. I love that part of it. The always keep them guessing element that the genre brings.
16) Which fan fic author is your most inspiration to be like in fan fic that is NOT julie? (we all already wanna be like her)
I would say either Chaos or Mersey
17) Who is the most fictional character that feels the most real that is NOT in the broken series?
I'm not sure I get this question lol
18) what has been your biggest writing challenge so far and why?
Lately just finishing the three stories i'm writing on because i'm thinking of retiring from fanfic writing and am having a hard time getting these three to come to a close.
19) when did you first start writing fanfic?
Seems like forever ago. Maybe 2003?
20) Do you ever see yourself stop writing?
^ sadly, yes. See above. Fanfic anyway, at least that's how i'm feeling lately. I hope I change my mind. I don't see myself quitting writing entirely though. I love it too much.
And my five questions:
21) What do you feel like is the most overused plotline in fanfics?
22) Who do you find the easiest boy to write about and why?
23) How do you feel about constructive criticism?
24) What is your least favorite genre and why?
25) if challenged, would you ever try writing a story in that genre?

Ack I've gotta renumber! LOL!
1) If you were asked to select one of your fanfics to be put in a time capsule and preserved, which one would you choose and why? (If you don't write, pick a story you've read to preserve.) At this point either "The Intimate Series" or "AWKOL". Because those are my two strongest story/series thus far.
2) Name a story you read the summary of or heard a synopsis of and scoffed, thinking it sounded like a terrible idea, and then read, only to be pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
I have to say "Broken" as well. I had to read it for an awards thing I was judging for and I was really skeptical, but ended up loving it.
3) If one of the Backstreet Boys emailed you and said that he had stumbled onto your site/fanfics, what would your reaction be? (Let's say you know for sure that it's the real him, not a poser.)
Hmmm, I'm not sure. I'd be highly embarassed but then I'd also figure that I'd never meet him and I'm most definately not the only one who writes. I think depending on the comments, hopefully I'd be kinda honored that he felt inclined to send me a comment about it.
4) As a follow-up to #3, if you had the chance (or were forced) to give one of your stories to the Boys to read, which one would it be and why?
I guess "AWKOL"
5) Name a story that you think would make an excellent book (as in a published novel) or movie, and tell us why you think so.
Umm...I don't know that I've come across one really. Maybe "Personal Touches" by Chandrah
6) What story pulled you out of your writing comfort zone and why?
I'd have to say currently 00Carter.
7) Name a relatively unknown writer who you feel needs to be recognized, one of her/his fics and why.
Sadly I don't have anyone, I don't reach much fic anymore.
8) Has a music video inspired one of your stories? How?
Not so much a video as a song.
9) What skill do you feel you need to work on as a writer?
All skills all the time. Always improving.
10) What do you feel is your best skill as a writer?
I guess...mmm...the ability to be able to touch peoples emotions.
11) How long is the longest fanfic you've read?
Honestly I avoid really long fics because in my expierence they're long for the wrong reasons. Off the top of my head 165 chapters, but honestly I didn't finsh because it was too redundant.
12) How did you find out about fanfiction? A friend of mine got me into it
13) Which was the first fanfic you read? Oh wow, I have no idea, it's been almost 10 years since I started reading fix.
14) What's your favorite genre and why? I have to say romance because I'm a HUGE sap, major sap.
15) If you write or if you think you might write someday, what genre is it usually/would it be and why? Romance again, it's what I'm comfortable with.
16) Which fan fic author is your most inspiration to be like in fan fic that is NOT julie? (we all already wanna be like her)
I don't really wanna be like anyone, only because I want to be unique, why should I be like someone else? An author is good because they're good in their own personal way. If I were to try to be like them then that'd be bogus.
17) Who is the most fictional character that feels the most real that is NOT in the broken series?
I'd have to say Ash's Nick in "Ground Zero", one of the massiahs of fanfic. LOL
18) what has been your biggest writing challenge so far and why?
Learning to take construtive critisim. No one wants to hear that something they've written isn't that great, but I've learned so much hearing what I could improve on. It's still a struggle but it's only had positive results.
19) when did you first start writing fanfic?
Towards the end of 98, so it'll be 10 years I've been writing next year!
20) Do you ever see yourself stop writing?
No way! LOL Hopefully I'll go into general fiction at some point, I can't not write, it's what I do.
21) What do you feel like is the most overused plotline in fanfics?
Oh man, the girl in the pop band who meets one of the guys while on tour either with them or in some other way and they end up dating.
22) Who do you find the easiest boy to write about and why?
Nick, I'm not sure if it's because we're about the same age or what.
23) How do you feel about constructive criticism? Ahh I answered this in one of the previous questions. In anycase I'm ALL for it, so long as it's presented in a mature way. I wouldn't be the decent writer I am without it.
24) What is your least favorite genre and why? It's hard to say, there's some genre's that I just don't care for. Umm...probably either sci-fi or historical
25) if challenged, would you ever try writing a story in that genre? Absolutely, I'm willing to try at least once so I can say I tried. Always gotta respect those who write what genre you don't.
26) What in your opinion makes a good story?
27) What's your biggest pet peeve when it comes to fanfic?
28) What do you feel is the biggest misconception in fanfic?
29) What turns you off to reading a fic? Or rather what will instantly not make you read a fic no matter what? (that's still just one question just worded differently the second time! LOL)
30) Do certain genres seem more intimidating than others?
|

21) What do you feel is the most overused plotline in fanfics? The whole best friend falling in love with the other. That is used so much and I'm sick of it personaly. 22)Who do you feel is the easiest boy to write about and why? Nick! He's just so adorable and I can actually put him in my life. He's gone through a lot of the same things I have, and I look up to him for the way he's handled it. And cause he's my favorite. 23)How do you feel about constructive critisism? I feel that it is a great thing to recieve. 24)What is your least favorite genre and why? SLASH, just cause it's nasty. Not that I'm against homosexuality, but because I feel putting straight people in situations like that are wrong. 25)If challenged, would you ever try writing a story in that genre? NO! I have been challenged and I completely refuse every time.
31) Do you find it hard to write about a different boy when you've strictly wrote about one your entire career in fan fic?
32)Do you sometimes take situations in your life, and put it in the story.
33)Do you use the boys in alternate universe stories a lot? If you do why?
34) Do you sometimes get the same idea again for a story you've already wrote before, and you've wrote so many you sometimes forget you have?
35) What type of plost usually intrest you?
Okay, not the best questions, but that's all I could come up with really.
