What's the saddest book you've ever read?
I've read a lot of sad books, but mine would have to be a picture book called "Faithful Elephants." It's supposed to be a children's book, but it's seriously the saddest, most disturbing book I've ever read. The professor of one of my reading methods classes last year gave it to a small group that I was in to read during class one day (each group had a different book), and we all cried in the middle of class reading it.
Along the same lines, my second would probably be "Where the Red Fern Grows"... which we read in 7th grade Lit class, and the day we read the end of the book in class, only boys read aloud because all of the girls were crying.
Anything with animals gets me more than sad stuff about people LOL. "The Yearling" made me cry... I even cried reading Stephen King's "Cujo" LOL

I cried Ahh, anything about the Holocaust gets me. I've heard of that book, but I haven't read it. I read "The Sunflower" by Simon Wiesenthal, another Holocaust survivor, and it made me cry a lot... almost forgot about that one.

"A Child Called It" is one of the most sad and disturbing book I have ever read. This story plaged my heart with hurt. How people can hurt their children I have no idea.

A Child Called It is really sad... almost too sad for me. I have it, I've read it once, but I don't think I could read it again. It's a good book, just very heartbreaking, knowing it's true.
I love Nicholas Sparks too. The Notebook made me cry... as did The Guardian (my favorite)... as did The Rescue... and probably others...
And Lurlene McDaniel books, Anita, oh yes!

Saddest book i read was Martin Eden by Jack London. I think i read a couple of more sad books but it's been at least 8 years since i read this book and it's still at the top of my list.

I'd have to say A Walk to Remember and The Notebook... man Nicholas Sparks is amazing.... all the other books I've read are more suspense/action kinda thing... (books by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child)
