If a series doesn't get you hooked on the first book, then it's worthless.

What about Lord of the Rings? Isn't it true that most LOTR geeks don't consider The Hobbit of the same caliber as the trilogy? Yet isn't it the first?
The first two Harry Potter books are cute, and I found them very engaging, but compared to the rest of the series, they are nothing. Prisoner of Azkaban and beyond is where you find the true complexity of the story, emotional and otherwise. Those last five books totally trump the first two in my mind.

I have no idea. I know nothing about Lord of the Rings other than what I've seen of the movies, lol. Huh... I dunno. Personally, I think that if you can't pull readers in in your first book, then the rest are pointless. Who wants to read three books before being pulled into the story? I don't see how you guys did it. I was bored out of my mind, lol.

I don't see how you guys did it. I was bored out of my mind, lol. Well, JK Rowling did pull quite a few readers into her first book LOL. Just not you, I guess. I dunno, I was reluctant to read the first one because I thought it sounded stupid... but I ended up reading it for my Brit Lit class in high school because it was on the list of books we could choose from for a book report, and I thought it would be easy LOL, plus my sister already had it, so I borrowed her copy to read. I was intrigued by the end of the first chapter and hooked soon after. I loved the first two books; my point was only that the five after that are even better because they're so much more complex, which makes them even more interesting.

I love them all, but The Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hollows are my two favorites. I loved both of those soooo much. Oh! The Hald Blood Prince too. Those three to me just told me sooo much and I just loved every aspect of it.

Me too, Kristy! I'm reading Half-Blood prince right now and then will read Deathly Hallows again. I think DH is my favorite, Goblet of Fire is my second favorite, and then Half-Blood Prince. They're all so good though!

Oh, I thought you guys meant that you didn't really like the first few books, okay, never mind, ignore me, lol.

I'm reading the DeHalf-Blood Prince right now also. I'm right where Harry Kissed Ginny. But I love them all too. The first two were really good in my opinion, but the later books are when it REALLY gets interesting. But later on you actually find out that the first two have alot more meaning than I thought they would. Like for example, Tom Riddle's diary.

Oh, I thought you guys meant that you didn't really like the first few books, okay, never mind, ignore me, lol. LOL yeah, I realized that's how I made it sound, but it's not what I meant. I love the first two books; they're just not as complex as books 3-7, which is why I like 3-7 a lot better. They basically get more complex and mature with each book, as Harry grows up, so that's why the first one is fairly simple and innocent and juvenile compared to the last one.

I LOVE where Harry kissed Ginny, one of my fave parts.

I have sooo many favorite parts. Last night I read the part where Ron is trying to finish his essay with one of Fred and George's Spell-Check quills, and the magic is starting to die in it, so he writes his name as "Roonil Wazlib" - so random, but it seriously cracks me up every time!
And I've decided one of my favorite parts of the whole series (and yeah, I have tons of them LOL) is when Harry is telling Dumbledore how Rufus Scrimgeour accused him of being "Dumbledore's man, through and through," and Dumbledore's like "How rude of him," and Harry goes "I told him I was," and Dumbledore gets teary-eyed! Aww! It makes me tear me up too LMAO.

I know Julie, I love that part too, and I cry. The bond between Harry and Dumbledore is amazing. It touches my heart.

I know. Dumbledore is one of the best characters ever. I can't pick a total favorite character cause I basically love them all, but he's definitely up there. LOL we should make another Harry Potter appreciation thread or revive one of the old HP threads, cause this is turning into one.

Yes it is, and we should. We can just talk about our favorite parts or something. Talking about Harry and the gang never gets old. I love it.
