I'm up to 2 now!
Meet the newest addition of my family... Liger!
I was over at my parents' house Thursday night... It was pouring rain, and they had left their garage door open for some reason, and this poor stray kitten came in. Of course, we made the mistake of picking it up and loving on it, and then when it came time to put it back in the garage and let it go, it sat outside the back door and cried to come back in.
There was no way my parents were going to take it in because they already have the two cats and only let us have a third (Luci) temporarily because they knew I'd take her with me when I moved out. The whole time I kept saying, "I can't take it... I can't do that to Luci." But when it came time to leave, I couldn't just leave the baby crying in the garage or send it back out in the rain either. It was so obviously in need of some care and nutrition. So then I started going, "Well... I do have an extra litter box and scooper from when I made kitty litter cake last year. I could shut it in the bathroom with that and some food for the night. Tomorrow's Friday, so it would only have to spend one day alone, and then I'd have all weekend to take care of it. And if it didn't work out, I could always take it to TAPS... at least it wouldn't have to spend the night in the rain."
And so... I ended up taking it home. And of course once I took it home, I knew I wasn't going to get rid of. So I have a new baby, and her name is Liger. She's somewhere between 6 months and a year old; the vet couldn't tell for sure because she has her adult teeth, but she's SO skinny and small for a year old cat.
Luci is handling the change surprisingly well. There's been some hissing from both cats, but not too much. They can be in the same room together without freaking out. Last night was the first night I didn't shut Liger in the bathroom, because I took her to the vet yesterday and got her dewormed and vaccinated, so she's safe to be around Luci now. This is the sleeping arrangement they ended up with: Luci slept literally IN bed with me, under the covers (that's her new hiding place all of a sudden), and Liger slept at the foot of the bed where Luci usually sleeps, on top of the covers. And my feet just kicked them both.
